Beginners' classes

We’re very friendly and you are welcome to come along to try out the class without having to commit to it. Your first two classes are free!

Our next special sessions for beginners are on Tuesday 5th and Thursday 7th November.

If you can, please email barbican@taekwondo-london.co.uk to let us know you’d like to come.

Tuesdays

Golden Lane Sport and Fitness, FanN St, EC1Y 0SH

7:30 – 8:30pm : all grades & beginners
8:30 – 9:30pm : intermediates & seniors

The Tuesday evening venue is a short walk from Barbican tube. Coming out of Barbican tube station, turn left, cross to Fann Street and you will find the Shakespeare pub. Pass to the right of the pub and veer diagonally left and down the wide steps that you come to. The reception is at the far end of the tennis courts, just let them know you are there for taekwondo.

Thursdays

CitySport, 124 Goswell Road, EC1Y 7DP

7:35 – 8:35pm : all grades & beginners
8:35 – 9:35pm : intermediates & seniors

Cost

Your first two sessions are free. The monthly subscription is £55 per month, which is reduced to £40 for the first 3 months. There are also charges for your annual licence, dobok (uniform) and gradings, but these are easiest to explain in person when you come along.

FAQ

Q: I’m an adult. Is this for me?

A: Yes! The Barbican club is currently only for adults (sorry, kids!) and it’s never too late to start.

Q: I’m a child. Is this for me?

A: No, the Barbican club is just for adults. Southwark, Charlton and Peckham clubs do accept children though, so check them out.

Q: What shall I wear?

A: Any sports clothing is fine to begin. If you decide to join the club we’ll arrange for you to get a dobok (uniform). Normally people wear tracksuit bottoms or shorts and a t-shirt to their first few sessions. We train in bare feet, so it’s best if your tracksuit bottoms aren’t so long that you might stand on them.

Q: Are there special sessions just for beginners?

A: Yes, we regularly run sessions for new beginners at our Tuesday and Thursday venues. We are a really friendly club, but know from experience (we were all beginners once!), that it can be very daunting walking into a hall with a lot of strangers in martial arts uniform and some people wearing black belts! We will make every effort to make you feel welcome before the class starts and let you ask any questions you may have, so please pluck up the courage to come in!
