TTA London students share their Summer School experiences

A number of TTA London students participated in their first Summer School in September 2025. The course, hosted every year at the University of Nottingham and taught by Grandmaster Loh, 9th Dan, Chief Instructor of the TTA, features six consecutive days of training for five hours a day.

The intensive week provides an opportunity for students to hone their skills and push themselves, while benefitting from learning directly from Grandmaster Loh. Below, some of the students attending Summer School for the first time share their experiences:

Leanne:

I attended TTA Summer School for the first time and found it was enjoyable and useful for progressing my kyorugi (sparring) and mental resilience skills, for example improving reacting fast and responding quickly with a counter attack. I particularly liked learning from Grandmaster Loh, he gave interesting teachings into the real life applications of taekwondo as a martial art, covering a good mix of topics and highlighted areas of improvement for my foundational strength, technical skills and also encouraged us to try new techniques and to always be pushing our limits.

My mental resilience was thoroughly tested during the week, but I believe I came away mentally stronger, with some good stories of my experience, stronger bonds, and improvement in myself which is incredibly rewarding.

Rafaella:

The Summer School was incredible! As a green tag it was challenging to try all the new techniques but they really helped me fix my form and adapt to the harder combinations. The stretching sessions were really good to understand all the different areas I need to focus on to better my kicks and stance/form. Sparring was my favourite part as it helped build my stamina and technique. Seeing also all the black and senior belts demonstrate was really good to understand what needs to be fixed.

Daniel:

I really enjoyed Summer School though it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life but it was worth it one hundred percent. I learnt so many new things and Grandmaster Loh was excellent with his teaching style and his many years of experience, plus helping us if anyone needed it.

I will like to say thank you to Grandmaster Loh and everyone from TTA and my instructors that helped me and gave me the confidence to do this course.

Claire:

Being trained directly by Grandmaster Loh and fully immerse in taekwondo for 30 hours without distraction was an incredible and invaluable experience.

It was tough and it pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it has made me even more determined to continue to try to improve myself physically and to work on a stronger mindset.

It was also a really great opportunity to get to know members from the other clubs and also to watch and learn from the seniors who attended.
